Decline in smoking among adolescents: key findings from the Escapad survey, France, 2003.
In 2000, the French Monitoring Center for Drugs and Drug Addiction (OFDT), with support from the National Service Directorate (DSN), launched the Survey on Health and Substance Use During the Defense Preparation Call-Up (Escapad). Every year, it surveys all adolescents attending their defense readiness call-up day (JAPD) on Wednesdays and Saturdays of a given week in mainland France and, from March to June, in the Overseas Departments and Collectivities (DOM-COM). This survey provides a detailed description of illicit and legal drug use, particularly tobacco use, among a specific age group. It allows for the observation of recent trends and robust regional comparisons due to the size of the sample. (R.A.)
