Summary

  • In week 37 (September 11–17, 2017), the second week of the new school year, total activity at SOS Médecins clinics continued to rise sharply (+50%) among children under 15 and remained stable among adults.

  • Among seasonal conditions, for the second consecutive week, there was a sharp increase in consultations for asthma (+114%) among children under 15 and for allergies (+41%) among children under 2. The increase in asthma cases is also observed among adults, though to a lesser extent (+57%). Also among children, there is a sharp increase (+48%) in consultations for viral syndrome. Finally, across all age groups, there is an increase in cases of meningitis (+90%, or +9 cases).

  • Most of the conditions most frequently seen in consultations are on the rise among children, particularly ENT and respiratory conditions (notably bronchiolitis at +170%, bronchitis at +129%, and upper respiratory tract conditions at +92%) and gastrointestinal conditions. ENT and respiratory conditions are also increasing among adults, though to a lesser extent (bronchitis up 55%, upper respiratory tract conditions up 50%). Among those aged 75 and older, there is also a 10% increase in visits due to deterioration in general health, low back pain, and death.
