SOS Médecins National Newsletter, November 8, 2011.

This week marks the start of SOS Médecins’ winter monitoring of activity, focusing on the following syndromic indicators: gastroenteritis, respiratory illnesses in infants, bronchiolitis, influenza, and measles. Over the past week, SOS Médecins’ activity has increased both nationally and across regions. This increase is linked to school holidays and the long weekend of November 1, and it particularly affects those aged 15–74. Diagnoses of gastroenteritis are on the rise across all age groups (+23% for all ages and +33% for those under 15*); gastroenteritis accounts for 17% of calls and 6% of diagnoses.Diagnoses of clinical influenza are slightly down across all age groups. Diagnoses of bronchiolitis are stable among children under 2 years of age, but remain at a higher level than in previous years for the same period (data consistent with trends observed by the Oscour® network). Measles diagnoses are stable. The mortality indicator is on the rise over the November 1st long weekend period for all age groups.
