SOS Médecins National Newsletter, November 27, 2017

Summary

In week 47 (November 20–26), overall activity at SOS Médecins clinics remained stable among adults. Among children, activity continued to rise (+16%, +3,968 visits).

In line with the high level of activity among children, the majority of seasonal conditions are on the rise. This increase is most pronounced for bronchiolitis (+41%, +213 visits), bronchitis in children under 2 years of age (+32%, +119 visits), and upper respiratory tract infections (+19%, +2,325 visits). There has also been an increase in cases of gastroenteritis (+18%, +353 visits) and diarrhea (+55%, +44 visits). Finally, cases of general malaise are worth noting among 2- to 14-year-olds; although this increase is clear, the numbers remain low. Among adults, the variation in consultations for seasonal conditions remains moderate and is observed for bronchitis (+12%, +240 visits) and upper respiratory tract conditions (+12%, +953 visits). To a lesser extent, we see increases in asthma (+6%, +25 visits) and gastroenteritis (+5%, +164 visits).

For the most common conditions, there has been an increase in viral syndromes (+24%, +34 visits) among children under 2 years of age. Cases of influenza/influenza-like illness, which have been rising steadily over the past few weeks, rank among the 10 most common conditions among those aged 15–74 (829 visits, representing a 29% increase).
