Key Points

In Week 43 (October 25–31, 2021), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased among children under 2 years old (+6%, or +466 visits) and adults aged 75 and older (+16%, or +806 visits), decreased among children aged 2–14, and remained stable among adults aged 15–74.

After two weeks of increases, cases involving suspected COVID-19 have stabilized (-2% in Week 43 vs. +23% in Week 42). In total, 943 cases were recorded in Week 43 (vs. 961 cases in Week 42, a decrease of 18 cases). These cases are down among those under 15 (-15%, or -18 cases), up among those aged 45–64 (+13%, or +19 cases) and those aged 75 and older (+57%, or +8 cases), and stable in other age groups. At the regional level, an increase in procedures was observed in six regions: Hauts-de-France (+23%, or 21 more procedures), Grand-Est (+18%, or 16 more procedures), Occitanie (+15%, or +11 procedures), Pays de la Loire (+15%, or +7 procedures), Normandy (+11%, or +6 procedures), and Nouvelle-Aquitaine (+7%, or +7 procedures). Since monitoring began on March 3, 2020, 252,320 medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed.

Seasonal respiratory indicators are stable or declining, except for bronchiolitis (+24%, or +147 procedures), ENT conditions (+8%, or 327 more cases) among children under 2 and adults aged 75 and older (+38%, or 85 more cases), bronchitis (+23%, or 67 more cases), and pneumonia (+23%, or 43 more cases) among adults aged 75 and older. Among children, all respiratory indicators, with the exception of influenza, are at higher levels than in previous years.

There is also an increase in allergies (+19%, or +27 cases) among children under 2, urinary tract infections among adults (+11%, or +194 cases), and cardiac conditions (+23%, or +31 cases), trauma (+19%, or +54 cases), lower back pain/sciatica (+18%, or +35 procedures), and deterioration in general health (+15%, or +32 procedures) among those aged 75 and older.
