Key Points

In Week 18 (May 2–8, 2022), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased among 2- to 14-year-olds (+7%, or +763 visits) and remained stable in other age groups.

After four consecutive weeks of decline, medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 remained stable across all age groups. In total, 896 procedures (vs. 916 in Week 17) were recorded across all age groups (a decrease of 2% vs. 33% in Week 17). Among those aged 2–14 and 75 and older, there was an increase in small numbers (+6%, or +8 cases, and +10%, or +5 cases, respectively); among those under 2, the decline continued (-37%, or -15 cases); and among those 75 and older, the number of cases remained stable. At the regional level, 6 regions are seeing an increase (Centre-Val de Loire, Brittany, PACA, Pays de la Loire, Hauts-de-France, Normandy), 6 are seeing a decrease (Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Burgundy-Franche-Comté, Grand Est, Occitanie, Île-de-France, Corsica), and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region remains stable.

Since monitoring began on March 3, 2020, 343,668 medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed.

Among other indicators, the following are observed:

  • all ages: an increase in procedures for trauma (+12%, or +260 procedures) and, with the exception of children under 2 years of age, for insect bites (+24%, or +56 procedures) and allergies (+12%, or +149 procedures). Procedures for influenza/flu-like illness continued to decline (-23%, or -618 procedures), but remained at a high level for the season;

  • among children: an increase in visits for isolated fever (+19%, or +83 visits), gastroenteritis (+15%, or +131 visits), and acute abdominal pain (+37%, or +74 visits) exclusively among those aged 2–14;

  • among those aged 15–74, there was an increase in visits for urinary tract infections (+14%, or +166 visits) and chickenpox (+26%, or +7 visits), which remain at a higher level than in previous years
