Summary

In Week 18 (April 27–May 3, 2020), there was an uptick in total SOS Médecins activity, which was more pronounced among those under 15 years of age (+18%, or +1,160 cases) than among adults (+9%, or +3,143 cases).

Cases involving suspected COVID-19 have been declining for five weeks; during the past week, 2,247 cases across all age groups were recorded, representing a 13% decrease compared to the previous week (-341 cases). These cases accounted for 5% of total activity (vs. 6% in week 17) and remained the second most common diagnosis among adults. By region, Île-de-France (20%), PACA (13%), Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (12%), Nouvelle-Aquitaine (11%), and Grand-Est (11%) that recorded the most COVID-19 procedures.
Since the start of surveillance, 46,422 procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed.

Procedures for isolated fever (+25%, or +176 procedures) and gastrointestinal conditions (+24%, or +360 procedures) across all age groups, as well as procedures for stroke (+15%) in adults, are on the rise. Among the most common conditions, there has been a resurgence in several conditions typically seen in SOS Médecins’ operations, including,

  • in children: viral syndrome (+84%), gastroenteritis (+32%), skin conditions (+36%), anxiety (+17%);

  • in adults: urinary tract infections (+21%), hypertension (+43% in those aged 65 and older), trauma (+13%, including +21% in those aged 65 and older), lumbosciatica (+11%), digestive disorders (+7%);

  • all ages: upper respiratory tract conditions (+18%), dental conditions (+18%).
