Summary
In Week 09 (March 1–7, 2021), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics remained stable for both adults (-0.4%) and children (-2.1%).
In Week 09, after four weeks of decline, medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups stabilized, with 2,568 procedures recorded (vs. 2,536 in Week 08; a 1.3% increase) and a share of total activity across all age groups remaining stable at 3.9%. Analysis by age group shows a slight increase among 2- to 14-year-olds (+6%, or +16 procedures), stabilization among children under 2 and those aged 15 to 74, and a decline among those aged 75 and older (-12%, or -21 procedures). Suspected COVID-19 is the fourth most common diagnosis among those aged 15–74. At the regional level, medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 are on the rise in Hauts-de-France (+17%, or +54 procedures), Nouvelle-Aquitaine (+23%, or 45 more procedures), Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (+13%, or 39 more procedures), Corsica (+146%, or 16 more procedures), and Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (+4.5%, or 3 more procedures). They are stable or declining in the other regions. Since monitoring began on March 3, 2020, 187,982 tests for suspected COVID-19 have been performed.
After several weeks of increases, seasonal respiratory and digestive conditions are mostly stable or declining across all age groups. However, there has been an increase in cases of asthma (+9%, or +31 cases) and isolated fever (+21%, or +79 cases) among adults, as well as gastroenteritis (+17%, or +257 cases), abdominal pain (+28%, or +89 cases), and vomiting (+7%, or +29 cases) among those under 15.
Among the most common conditions, there was an increase in visits for chickenpox (+15%, or +64 visits) and allergies (+8%, or +39 visits) among those under 15, and for low back pain/sciatica (+7%, or +178 visits) and urinary tract infections (+14%, or +244 visits) among adults. Finally, procedures for trauma increased among those aged 2–14 (+14%, or +55 procedures) and those aged 75 and older (+7%, or +32 procedures).
