Summary

  • In week 25 of 2017 (June 19–25, 2017), overall activity at SOS Médecins clinics rose slightly among children under 15 (+7%) and remained stable among adults, with activity levels comparable to those of previous years during the same period.

  • Regarding seasonal spring and summer conditions, following the high temperatures of the past week, there was a significant increase in cases of heat-related illnesses (HRI) across all age groups (433 weekly visits, or +123%, and 824 weekly visits, or +168%, among children and adults, respectively), primarily involving heatstroke. The largest increase is observed among those aged 15–74 (+190%, with the weekly number of H-related consultations rising from 190 to 552). In week 25, the proportion of heatstroke cases in SOS Médecins’ overall activity was higher than in the previous two years. There was an increase in consultations for isolated fever (+22%) among children under 15 and for general malaise (+22%) among those aged 15–74. In addition, there was an increase in consultations for allergies (+17%) among children under 15. The rise in consultations for insect bites continued among adults aged 75 and older (+35%) and among children under 15 (+11%). Consultations for conjunctivitis increased among 2- to 14-year-olds (+15%). For all these indicators, the share of activity is higher than in the previous two years.

  • Among the most common conditions, there has been an increase in visits: - among those aged 75 and older: for urinary tract infections (+19%), general health deterioration (+18%), and various cardiac issues (+13%). Note the increase in deaths in this age group (+23%). - among those aged 15–74: for anxiety (+8%) - among children under 15: for viral syndrome (+19%). Additionally, there has been a continued increase in visits for chickenpox among children under 2 years of age (+11%).
