SOS Médecins National Newsletter, July 3, 2017
Summary
In week 26 of 2017 (June 26 to July 2), the overall activity of SOS Médecins across all age groups remained stable and comparable to the same period in previous years.
The vast majority of seasonal and summer-related conditions remained stable or declined across all age groups, with their share of overall SOS Médecins activity similar to previous years. In particular, consultations for heat-related conditions and burns decreased by 84% and 51%, respectively, across all age groups. However, there is a slight increase in consultations for isolated fever among adults aged 15–74 (+13%) and children aged 2–14 (+9%). For the latter group, the share of activity within SOS Médecins’ overall activity has been slightly higher than in previous years since Week 22. In Week 26, following several weeks of decline, there was also a sharp increase in asthma attacks among adults (+40%). The associated share of activity, however, remains similar to previous years.
Most of the most common conditions saw an increase in week 26. Notably, across all age groups, there was an increase in gastrointestinal symptoms (gastroenteritis, abdominal pain, and diarrhea in children under 2 years old) and bronchitis (except among those aged 75 and older). Finally, among those aged 75 and older, there was also an increase in consultations for anxiety (+24%) and low back pain/sciatica (+18%).
