Key Points
In Week 03 (January 16–22, 2023), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics continued to rise among children (+13%, or +3,357 visits) and declined among adults.
Among children, in this third week of the new school year, we continue to see an increase in nearly all monitored indicators. Procedures for respiratory conditions such as pneumonia (+30%, or +34 procedures), asthma (+29%, or +124 procedures), acute bronchitis (+28%, or +227 cases), and upper respiratory tract conditions (+24%, or +2,736 cases) are on the rise among children under 15, as are cases of bronchiolitis (+11%, or +32 cases) and viral syndrome (+9%, or +11 cases) among children under 2. Notably, still among children under 15, there has been a continued increase in procedures for gastroenteritis (+11% or +268 procedures), scarlet fever (+19% or +43 procedures), and conjunctivitis (+18% or +133 procedures), which remains at a high level among both children and adults.
Among adults, nearly all monitored indicators are declining, except for an increase in cases of trauma (+6%, or +93 cases) among those aged 15–74 and a sharp rise (+15%, or +23 cases) among those aged 75 and older.
Regarding respiratory epidemics, cases of influenza/influenza-like illness are declining across all age groups. Conversely, cases involving suspected COVID-19 are on the rise but remain low in number (under 2 years old: +6 cases; 2–14 years old: +9 cases; 75 years and older: +10 cases), with the exception of those aged 15–74, where the number continues to decline sharply (-22%, or -109 cases).
Regarding mental health indicators, the increase in cases continues for anxiety among those aged 45–64 (+7%) and for depressive syndrome among those aged 15–44 (+19%) and 45–64 (+27%), although levels remain low compared to previous years.
