Key Points

  • In week 51 (December 19–25, 2022), the first week of school break, total activity at SOS Médecins clinics decreased among children aged 2–14 (-23%, or 7,639 fewer visits), increased among adults aged 75 and older (+21%, or 1,134 more visits), and remained stable in other age groups.

  • In line with the holidays, most conditions are down among children aged 2–14, particularly cases of influenza/flu-like illness (-22%, or -1,733 cases). In other age groups, these cases continued to rise: +44% among children under 2 years old (+212 cases), +20% among those aged 15–74 (+2,826 cases), and +58% among those aged 75 and older (+173 cases). Across all age groups, cases involving influenza/flu-like illness are the most frequent in SOS Médecins’ total activity, accounting for 22% of cases among children and 27% among adults (22% and 24%, respectively, in S50). Calls for suspected COVID-19 are down for the second consecutive week among children (-53%, or -311 calls) and adults aged 15–74 (-28%, or -674 calls), and slightly up among those aged 75 and older (+12%, or +32 calls). Finally, among children under 2 years of age, procedures for bronchiolitis remain stable.

  • Among adults, the rise in other respiratory indicators continues, at levels higher than in previous years: pneumonia (+38%, or +336 cases), acute bronchitis (+17%, or +751 cases, more pronounced among those aged 75 and older), as well as asthma attacks (+14%, or +141 cases, more pronounced among those aged 75 and older).

  • Among other indicators, there was an increase in procedures for depressive disorders among those aged 45 and older (+53%, or +21 procedures), anxiety among those aged 65 and older (+33% or +28 cases), and among those aged 75 and older: heart failure (+30% or +44 cases), confirmation of death (+23% or +91 cases —the second most common reason for care in this age group), and deterioration in general health (+18%, or +41 cases).
