SOS Médecins National Newsletter, April 8, 2014

Trends in Overall Activity: Activity at SOS Médecins clinics has remained stable across all age groups for the third consecutive week, both nationally and regionally. Patient numbers are similar to those observed in 2013 for the same period.

Trends in Seasonal Indicators Among children under 15, there has been an increase in healthcare visits for viral syndromes (+28%, +85 cases) and for chickenpox (+25%, +74 cases). The allergy indicator has risen by approximately 20% across all age groups (i.e., +158 cases across all ages), though numbers remain low among children under 2 years of age and adults over 75 years of age. This increase, visible since Week 12, has continued and intensified since Week 13, with case numbers higher than in 2013 but on a scale similar to that of 2012. It should be noted that the observed temporal trend is similar to that of the asthma indicator. This increase is visible in all regions but is more pronounced in the Nord and Île-de-France regions, where it accounts for approximately 3% of total activity. Diagnoses of pneumonia are on the rise among children under 15, with a slight increase (+20%, or +15 cases), but remain stable across all age groups, in line with the numbers observed in 2012 and 2013. Diagnoses of asthma attacks have remained stable for the second consecutive week, with numbers similar to those in 2011 and higher than those in 2012. This stabilization is observed in all regions, with the exception of the Nord-Est region, where a slight increase was seen during the week, accounting for approximately 2% of total activity. Diagnoses of influenza/influenza-like illness continue to decline across all age groups, with case numbers within expected seasonal ranges. Diagnoses of gastroenteritis remain stable across all monitored age groups. Case numbers are similar to those in 2013.
