Key Points
In week 47 (November 17–23), the number of emergency department visits decreased among those aged 15–74 (-8%, or -18,882 visits) and remained stable in other age groups. The number of hospitalizations following a visit increased among children under 2 years of age (+11%, or +399 hospitalizations) and remained stable in other age groups.
Among adults, all indicators are stable or declining, with the exception of influenza, which is on the rise.
Among children, respiratory indicators continue to rise but remain at levels comparable to those observed in previous years.
Influenza / Flu-like illness: continued increase across all age groups (+30%, or +356 visits), following a sharp rise observed the previous week.
Bronchiolitis in children under 1 year of age: visits continue to rise sharply (+37%, or +636 visits).
Among children under 15: The sharp increase observed in week 46 continues, but at a more moderate pace and at levels lower than in previous years for the following respiratory indicators:
ENT conditions (+6%, or +548 visits).
Acute bronchitis (+20%, or +76 visits).
Pneumonia (+14%, or +103 visits).
Asthma attacks (+9%, or +338 visits).
Cough in children aged 2–14 only (+9%, or +59 visits).
Among other indicators, there was an increase in visits among 2- to 14-year-olds for vomiting (+7%, or +50 visits) to levels higher than in previous years, abdominal pain (specific +14% and nonspecific +6%), and dehydration, which also rose among children under 2 years of age (+65%, or +38 visits). Among children under 2 years old, there was also an increase in visits for malaise (+27%, or +46 visits).
