Key Points
In Week 46 (November 14–20, 2022), one week after the start of the school year, emergency room visits and hospitalizations increased among children (+14%, or +13,208 visits, and +17%, or +1,634 hospitalizations) and remained stable among adults.
After a week of stabilization, visits for respiratory conditions are on the rise again among children and remain at levels higher than those observed in previous years, particularly for bronchiolitis (+23%), acute bronchitis (+29%), pneumonia (+36%), asthma (+45%), and ENT conditions (+33%). Visits for influenza are rising across all age groups (+36%). After four weeks of decline, an increase in visits across all age groups for suspected COVID-19 is observed (+13%, or +358 visits). This increase affects all age groups and is most pronounced among 2- to 14-year-olds (+57%, or +28 visits).
Among children, most other indicators and the most common conditions in emergency departments are on the rise, but to a lesser extent than respiratory conditions.
Among people aged 75 and older, an increase in visits for fever alone was observed (+34%, or +84 visits), as well as for cardiac decompensation (+16%, or +233 visits). In this age group, regarding mental health, there has been an increase in suicidal acts (+35%, or +35 visits), though at levels lower than those observed last year during the same period.
