Key Points
In Week 12 (March 20–26, 2023), the third week following the start of the school year, emergency department visits and hospitalizations following such visits remained stable across all age groups.
Most respiratory indicators were stable or declining, with the exception of coughs among children under 2 years old (+32%, or +66 visits), pneumonia among 2- to 14-year-olds (+16%, or +43 visits), asthma among adults (+11%, or +118 visits), and ENT conditions among those aged 75 and older (+18%, or +21 visits).
Influenza was declining across all age groups. Visits for suspected COVID-19, however, continued to rise, albeit at a slower rate than in the previous two weeks, both among children (+12%, or +28 visits) and adults (+15%, or +242 visits), with a total of 2,152 visits across all age groups in Week 12 compared to 1,882 in Week 11.
Regarding other indicators, visits for conjunctivitis and scarlet fever remained at a high level and continued to rise among children (respectively +33%, or +120 visits, among 2- to 14-year-olds, and +77%, or +10 visits, among children under 2).
