Key Points
In Week 12 (March 21–27, 2022), emergency department visits for all age groups increased among children (+8%, or 9,088 visits) and remained stable among adults. Hospitalizations remained stable across all age groups.
Visits for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups continued to rise for the third consecutive week (6,758 vs. 5,329 visits, or +27% in Week 12 vs. +29% in Week 11 and +9% in Week 10). The share of activity is also up slightly (1.8% vs. 1.5% in Week 11), while the proportion of hospitalizations has stabilized (35% vs. 36% in Week 11). The increase applies to all age groups. COVID-19 is the 10th most common condition in emergency departments among children under 2 years old, the 8th among those aged 15–74, and the 3rd among those aged 75 and older. At the regional level, emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 are on the rise in all regions except Réunion, Guadeloupe, French Guiana, and Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
Since monitoring began on February 24, 2020, 749,017 emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 have been recorded.
Visits for influenza/flu-like illness continue to rise among children (+32%, or +1,394 visits) and adults (+27%, or +656 visits), with levels among children exceeding those of previous years. Among other seasonal indicators, there has been an increase in visits for ENT conditions among children (+15%, or +1,713 visits) and those aged 15–74 (+10%, or +325 visits), and moderate increases for pneumonia among children (+14%, or 52 visits) and those aged 15–74 (+13%, or 210 visits), at levels lower than or comparable to previous years.
Finally, increases were observed across all age groups for conjunctivitis (+24%, or +236 visits), isolated fever (+13%, or +1,065 visits), and trauma (+6%, or +5,623 visits), at levels higher than or comparable to previous years.
