Key Points
In Week 10 (March 7–13, 2022), emergency room visits and hospitalizations following visits remained stable among adults and increased among children: ages 2–14 (+13%, or +8,772 visits, and +7%, or +402 hospitalizations) and under 2 years old (+7%, or +1,526 visits, with hospitalizations remaining stable).
After six consecutive weeks of decline, visits for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups are rising again, albeit at a low level (4,069 vs. 3,817 visits, or +7% in Week 10 vs. -13% in Week 9). The share of activity is also up slightly (1.19% vs. 1.16% in Week 09), while the proportion of hospitalizations following a visit continues to decline (39% vs. 43% in Week 09). The increase is mainly observed among those aged 2–14 (+24%, or 62 visits) and those aged 15–74 (+7%, or 136 visits). Among children under 2 and those aged 75 and older, COVID-19 remains the 10th most common condition in emergency departments. At the regional level, emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 are on the rise in more than half of the regions; only Centre-Val de Loire (-5%, or -7 visits) and Guadeloupe (-78%, or -18 visits) are still seeing a decline.
Since monitoring began on February 24, 2020, 736,451 emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 have been recorded.
One week after the start of the school year in all regions, influenza is rising sharply across all age groups: +47% among children under 2, +70% among 2- to 14-year-olds, +60% among 15- to 74-year-olds, and +97% among those aged 75 and older (representing +1,882 cases across all age groups). Most seasonal indicators are on the rise among children and adults: ENT conditions among 2- to 14-year-olds and 15- to 74-year-olds (+29% and +14%, or 1,319 and 353 visits, respectively), acute bronchitis (+23%, or +243 visits) except among those under 2 years old, and gastroenteritis (+10%, or +834 visits), which remains at a very high level among
children.
