Summary

For the first week of 2019 (December 31 to January 6), outpatient visits and hospitalizations declined among children (-15%, or 15,602 fewer visits, and -6.6%, or 687 fewer hospitalizations) and remained stable among adults.

Over the past week, increases were observed primarily among adults for: - influenza/flu-like illness (+20%, or +280 visits), - other respiratory conditions: acute bronchitis (+14%, or +388 visits), pneumonia (+14%, or +738 visits), and dyspnea/respiratory failure in those aged 75 and older (+9%, or +161 visits), - alcohol-related cases in those aged 15–74 (+27%, or +659 visits), with visits primarily concentrated on New Year’s Day.
