Summary

In Week 7 (February 11–17, 2019), emergency department visits and subsequent hospitalizations remained stable among adults and declined slightly among children (–12% and –6%, respectively).

Visits for influenza/flu-like illness were down for the first week across all age groups except among those aged 75 and older (stable). Across all age groups, the recorded decrease was 21%, or 2,964 visits. These diagnoses accounted for 3.6% of emergency department activity, and 19% of these visits resulted in hospitalization (68% among people aged 75 and older).

Among other seasonal conditions, there were increases in visits for: - asthma and allergies in children under 2 years of age (+8% and +24%, respectively), - infectious conjunctivitis in adults (+12%).
