Key Points

In Week 19 of 2022, there was an increase in emergency room visits for suicide attempts and anxiety disorders among children. Rates remain high for suicide attempts and mood disorders among 15- to 44-year-olds and for suicide attempts among children.

Within the SOS Médecins network, visits for anxiety are on the rise among children and those aged 45–64. The observed levels remain lower than those of previous years.

Data on emergency room visits from the OSCOUR® network:

  • Among children, visits are on the rise for suicide attempts (+15%, or +26 visits) and anxiety disorders (+25%, or +64 visits) and remain stable for mood disorders. An increase in visits for conduct disorders is also observed (+21%, or +88 visits; indicator not presented). For the suicidal behavior indicator, the levels reached remain higher than in previous years. The other levels observed are comparable to previous years.

  • Among adults (aged 15 and older), visits for suicidal acts, anxiety disorders, and mood disorders are stable or declining. However, an increase in visits for stress is observed among those aged 15–44 (+32%, or +53 visits; indicator not shown).

  • The levels observed are higher than in previous years among those aged 15–44 for suicidal acts and mood disorders, and comparable for other age groups.

Data on medical interventions from the SOS Médecins associations:

  • Among children, procedures for anxiety are on the rise (+53%, or +8 procedures), while procedures for depressive states and behavioral disorders remain within the fluctuation ranges observed since the beginning of the year and at levels comparable to those of previous years.

  • Among adults (aged 15 and older), procedures for anxiety are on the rise among those aged 45–64 (+15%, or +27 procedures). Procedures for depressive states and behavioral disorders are declining. The levels observed for these indicators remain comparable to or even lower than those of previous years.
