Health Surveillance of Mortality. Weekly Update, January 2, 2018.
Summary
Nationally, all-cause mortality reported by INSEE for the first two weeks of December (December 4–17, 2017) is on the rise among adults aged 15–64, exceeding the usual range of fluctuation. Mortality among children and adults over 65, however, remains close to expected levels (Figures 1–3). At the regional level, the increase in mortality among adults aged 15–64 is observed more specifically in the Occitanie region (weeks 49 and 50), Normandy (week 49), and Île-de-France (week 50) (data not shown).
These initial observations should be interpreted with caution, as the data are not yet consolidated due to the usual delays in data transmission and the year-end holiday period. As a reminder, these analyses are based on vital statistics data and do not contain any information on the medical causes of death.
