Health Surveillance of Mortality. Weekly Update, February 19, 2019.

Summary

Nationally, following a gradual increase since the start of the year, excess mortality across all causes and age groups remains elevated in week 6 (February 4–10) but appears to be stabilizing. Older adults are the most affected, particularly those aged 85 and older.Across all age groups, excess mortality for the first five weeks of 2019 (weeks for which all-cause mortality data are pre-consolidated) is estimated at +10%, or +6,200 deaths (estimate extrapolated to the whole of France based on data from a sample of 3,000 municipalities). These observations should be interpreted with caution, as the data are not yet consolidated due to the usual transmission delays.

According to data from electronic certification, 2,354 deaths were recorded in week 07 (February 11–17, 2019).
