Background and Benefits of a Public Hearing in the Prevention of Sexual Violence.

Each year, 800,000 people are victims of sexual violence, not including violence against minors. Many professionals in the health, legal, and social sectors are currently involved in the care and treatment of perpetrators of sexual violence, through systems that have been developed over the past few decades. Since the 1990s, legislation has been expanded to prevent violence proactively and to address perpetrators after the fact, identify high-risk situations, and reduce the risk of recidivism by establishing coordinated health care—medical or psychological—following incarceration. The public hearing held on June 14 and 15, 2018, assessed the current situation and made recommendations regarding the prevention, assessment, and treatment of perpetrators of sexual violence in France.
