Suicidal Behavior in France: 2023 Report.

In 2023, 74,039 emergency room visits due to suicide attempts were recorded throughout France (mainland France + Overseas Departments and Regions (DROM) – excluding Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and Corsica).
In 2023, 91,162 hospitalizations for self-harm were recorded across France (mainland France + DROM), representing a rate of 134 hospitalizations per 100,000 inhabitants (+2.9% compared to 2022).
Girls and young women aged 11 to 24 had the highest hospitalization rates for self-harm, particularly girls aged 15 to 17, with 737 hospitalizations per 100,000.
In 2021, nearly 8,900 suicide deaths were recorded throughout France (mainland France + overseas departments and regions), corresponding to a standardized rate of 13 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants (a 0.9% decrease compared to 2020).
Men aged 45 and older had the highest suicide death rates, with a death rate of 39 per 100,000 among those aged 65 and older and 30 per 100,000 among those aged 45–64.
