Key Points
Since January 1, 2019, 1,184 cases of measles have been reported (compared to 2,306 cases during the same period in 2018), including 378 (32%) hospitalizations (16 in intensive care), 94 cases (8%) complicated by pneumonia, 2 cases of encephalitis, including 1 death (subacute encephalitis in an immunocompromised patient).
The circulation of the measles virus has intensified, with more than 100 cases reported during each of weeks 18 and 19, compared to 70 cases (on average) during the previous 8 weeks, primarily linked to the outbreak in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department.
80 departments reported at least 1 case during the period.
88% of cases occurred in unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated individuals (out of a total of 831 cases, aged over one year and born since 1980, for whom vaccination status was known).
