Public Health Bulletin: Vaccination in Corsica. January 2021.

Key Points

Vaccination Coverage Among Children and Adolescents

  • At 24 months - Vaccination coverage rates close to or above 90%, except for the second dose of MMR (86%)

    • DTP, pertussis, Haemophilus influenzae type b, and pneumococcal: above 95%

    • Hepatitis B: a 3-percentage-point decrease between 2017 (92%) and 2018 (89%)

    • Meningococcal C: an increase of 7 percentage points between 2017 and 2018, reaching 83%.

  • Among young children and adolescents - Coverage rates remain insufficient, particularly as children get older

    • Meningococcal C: increasing across all age groups, but catch-up vaccination remains insufficient, particularly among children aged 10 and older (<50%)

    • HPV: vaccination coverage remains very low (<25%)

Influenza vaccination coverage in target populations (2019–2020 season)

Insufficient vaccination coverage, with less than 50% of the target population vaccinated. This coverage is also lower than the vaccination coverage in mainland France.

Vaccination coverage among healthcare professionals in healthcare facilities and nursing homes (2018-19 season survey)

  • Healthcare facility

Flu: 28%, measles: 68%, pertussis: 63%, chickenpox: 15%

The influenza vaccination coverage in Corsica is lower than the coverage for all of France, though not significantly so. The chickenpox vaccination coverage is lower than the national rate, even though the prevalence of prior chickenpox infection is similar.

With the exception of pertussis, vaccination coverage is much higher among physicians than among other healthcare professionals. The age groups with the highest vaccination coverage depend on the disease being studied (higher coverage among older professionals for influenza, and among younger professionals for measles and pertussis).

  • Nursing Homes

At 29%, the influenza vaccination coverage is no different from the national level. Vaccination coverage among physicians (82%) is much higher than among other healthcare professionals (<40%).
