Key Points
Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika
Since the last bulletin, we have learned of two new outbreaks of locally transmitted chikungunya, one in the municipality of Auribeau-sur-Siagne (1 case) and one in the municipality of Nice (1).
Furthermore, the epidemiological situation in Vitrolles and Antibes has changed since the last bulletin, particularly due to the identification of numerous new locally transmitted cases during door-to-door surveys conducted on August 3 and August 4.
As of August 12, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) region has recorded 11 episodes of local transmission: 8 of chikungunya and 3 of dengue. In total, 49 local cases of chikungunya (+27) and 6 local cases of dengue (+1) have been identified.
Since the start of enhanced surveillance (May 1), 182 imported cases (+6 since the last update) have been identified in the region: 90 cases of dengue, 91 of chikungunya, and 1 case of Zika.
West Nile Virus Infections
Since the last bulletin, 3 new cases of West Nile virus (WNV) infection have been reported: 2 in the Var and 1 in the Bouches-du-Rhône.
As of August 12, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region has recorded 5 cases of WNV infection: 3 in the Var department, all in the municipality of Hyères, and 2 cases in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, 1 in Gardanne and 1 case contracted in Arles or Tarascon.
Heat Wave
A heat wave has been affecting the Paca region since August 9, 2025. All departments are currently under an ORANGE Heat Wave alert.
According to Météo France, temperatures are expected to remain high throughout France in the coming days. Heat-related activity by emergency services and SOS Médecins associations is on the rise in both networks.
