Health Monitoring in Corsica. Bulletin of September 17, 2025.

Key Points

Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika

  • As of September 17, no new locally transmitted cases have been reported in Corsica since week 33. Furthermore, given the time elapsed since the onset of symptoms in the latest cases, the outbreaks in Porticcio and Ghisonaccia are now considered closed. The current tally stands at 3 locally transmitted chikungunya outbreaks and 18 cases in Corsica.

  • In mainland France, 65 outbreaks of local vector-borne transmission have been identified: 54 chikungunya outbreaks (+16 compared to last week) and 11 dengue outbreaks (no new outbreaks compared to last week).

  • Finally, since the start of enhanced surveillance (May 1), 3 imported cases of dengue and 3 imported cases of chikungunya have been confirmed in Corsica (no new cases compared to last week).

Extreme heat, heat wave

  • Heat wave surveillance ended on September 15. In week 37, activity related to heat-related illnesses was low and below the levels observed in previous years.

Asthma at the start of the school year

  • In Corsica during Week 37, one week after the start of the school year, asthma-related activity at SOS Médecins and in emergency departments among children under 15 increased: 17 medical visits and a 4.7% share of activity at SOS Médecins (vs. 5 visits and a 2.1% share of activity in week 36) and 7 emergency room visits with a 2.4% share of activity (vs. 3 visits and a 1.2% share of activity in week 36).

  • In both networks, the level of asthma-related care for children under 15 remained broadly similar to that observed in previous years.
