Health Monitoring in Corsica. Bulletin of August 13, 2025.
Key Points
Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika
Update as of August 13 on the two episodes of local transmission of chikungunya detected in Corsica:
Grosseto-Prugna (Southern Corsica), fourteen cases detected (+1 compared to last week);
Ghisonaccia (Haute-Corse), two cases detected (+1 compared to last week).
In addition, since the start of enhanced surveillance (May 1), 3 imported cases of dengue and 3 imported cases of chikungunya have been confirmed in Corsica (no new cases compared to last week).
Heat Wave
A heat wave is currently underway. Both Corsican departments were placed on yellow alert on Sunday, August 10. Haute-Corse was then raised to orange alert on August 11, followed by Corse-du-Sud on August 12. These high temperatures are expected to persist until at least midweek, or possibly into the weekend.
Emergency room activity for heat-related conditions appears to have risen slightly over the past three weeks (share of activity) and is higher than expected. The percentage of hospitalizations for heat-related conditions and the share of activity due to heat-related illness remain stable compared to last week. At SOS Médecins, only one diagnosis of a heat-related condition was made in week 32.
