Epidemiological surveillance in Corsica. Update as of March 17, 2021.
Key Points
COVID-19
The regional incidence rate, at 149 per 100,000 inhabitants, shows a slight decrease (-4%), with differing trends between the two departments. The incidence rate is rising in Southern Corsica (+16%) while it is falling in Northern Corsica (-12%). It remains, however, above the alert threshold of 50 per 100,000 inhabitants. The increase in the testing rate is notably due to repeated testing campaigns in schools (5,597 per 100,000 inhabitants, or +19%). This increase partly explains the decrease in the positivity rate this week (2.8% vs. 3.5% in Week 9), but not exclusively, as the rate is decreasing in nearly all age groups. The number of current hospitalizations across all departments is increasing (+6 additional hospitalizations compared to Week 09). This is due to an increase in general hospitalizations in Haute-Corse (+8 hospitalizations). Intensive care hospitalizations remain stable.
Winter Epidemics
Bronchiolitis outbreak.
Pollen
The allergy risk across all of Corsica is considered moderate, with the highest risk from cypress trees (3/5), followed by ash and alder trees (2/5).
