The AIDS Situation in France as of June 30, 1986

The AIDS surveillance network established in 1982 by the DGS had recorded 859 cases as of June 30, 1986. For the second quarter of 1986, 13 new cases per week were reported, compared to 6 to 7 for the same period in 1985. Men are the most affected (89% versus 11%), particularly those in the 20–29 and 30–39 age groups. However, there were 9 cases among newborns (0–11 months) and 12 among young children (1–9 years). Homosexuals (70.5%) and drug users (3.5%) are considered high-risk groups.
