Key Points

  • The number of reported cases of active tuberculosis (n=202) decreased in 2020 compared to 2019 and 2018.

  • The reporting rate in the Pays de la Loire region remains, however, above the average for mainland France excluding the Île-de-France region (5.4 versus 5 per 100,000 inhabitants).

  • The Loire-Atlantique department accounted for more than half of the cases reported in 2020 (n=114).

  • Men aged 25 to 39 accounted for the majority of reports in 2020, as they did between 2015 and 2019 (30%).

  • In 2020, for more than half of the reported cases (61%), patients were born abroad; this proportion was increasing compared to the 2015–2020 period.

  • Between 2015 and 2018, 86% of patients residing in the region completed treatment for tuberculosis.

  • The proportion of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis remains low in the Pays de la Loire region (1%).
