HIV/AIDS

  • LaboVIH Testing: The HIV testing rate was 65 per 1,000 inhabitants in the Pays de la Loire region in 2018, lower than that of mainland France (76 per 1,000 inhabitants). The HIV prevalence rate in 2018 in the Pays de la Loire region (1.4 per 1,000 samples tested) was equivalent to that of mainland France (1.3 per 1,000 samples).

  • HIV: 184 HIV infections were reported in the region in 2018. The rate of newly reported cases was 49 per million inhabitants in 2018, stable compared to previous years. People born in sub-Saharan Africa accounted for 49% of cases in the region in 2018. The proportion of diagnoses at an advanced stage was higher in the Pays de la Loire region in 2018 (34%) compared to metropolitan France (28%).

  • AIDS: 30 cases were reported in the region in 2018.

  • COREVIH active registry: 145 new patients with HIV infection were treated in the region in 2018.

  • “e-do” platform: 81% was the rate of use by clinicians and laboratory technicians for HIV/AIDS case reports in the region in 2018. Its average usage in France was 87% in 2018.

Gonococcal infections and recent syphilis

  • Gonococcal infections: increase in the number of cases diagnosed in 2018

  • Syphilis: the majority of diagnoses involved men who have sex with men (MSM). Condom use remained low among cases reported through ResIST.

STI screening (SNDS)

  • Syphilis: 2018 marked a decline in the Pays de la Loire region (observed at the national level) in the syphilis screening rate (men and women). This trend will need to be confirmed in the coming years.

  • Chlamydia trachomatis infections: The screening rate increased in 2018 among both men and women.

Prevention

  • Overall, sales of male condoms remained stable in 2018 compared to 2017 in the Pays de la Loire region
