Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of September 16, 2015.

Over the past week in the region:

  • As announced two weeks ago, a sharp increase in upper respiratory infections and asthma attacks has been observed among children, with the number of cases doubling in less than a week. This increase, which is typical in the weeks following the start of the school year, is linked to the circulation of a respiratory virus, the rhinovirus. The spread appears to be more widespread than last year. The peak in pediatric emergency room visits for asthma is expected next week.

  • Reports recorded by the Angers Poison Control and Toxicovigilance Center indicate 25 cases of poisoning linked to mushroom ingestion in the region since early July, including 13 in the past week. These cases account for 6% of the 393 cases reported in France during this period.

  • The tally of reported cases of Legionnaires’ disease in the region shows an increase during the month of August, with 11 cases, none of which are epidemiologically linked. This increase is typical during the summer months.
