Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of September 10, 2023.

Key Points

Asthma and Nasopharyngitis

An initial increase in healthcare utilization (SOS Médecins and emergency departments) for asthma attacks and nasopharyngitis among children under 15 was observed in week 36 in the region, as well as nationwide. This increase in activity is frequently observed during this back-to-school period.

COVID-19

Healthcare utilization (SOS Médecins visits and emergency department visits) for suspected Covid-19 in the Pays de la Loire region has been on the rise in recent weeks, but remains at moderate levels.

The incidence rate also continued to rise in Week 36, reaching 34 per 100,000 inhabitants (25 per 100,000 inhabitants in Week 35). This indicator should be interpreted with caution because, since July 1, only cases confirmed by PCR have been reported; cases confirmed by antigen testing are therefore no longer included in the incidence rate.

Dengue

Since May 1, 2023, the start of the enhanced arbovirus surveillance season, 51 imported cases of dengue (probable or confirmed cases) have been reported in the Pays de la Loire region.

Extreme heat, heat wave

Last week (Week 36), the region was placed under a yellow heat wave alert by Météo-France. Healthcare utilization (emergency room visits and SOS Médecins calls) for heat-related conditions increased in Week 36 compared to Week 35, remaining within the fluctuations already observed during the summer of 2023.
