Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of October 7, 2022.

Key Points

COVID-19

  • SARS-CoV-2 circulation continued to rise in weeks 38–39, and hospital indicators began to rise as well starting in week 38.

Asthma and nasopharyngitis

  • An increase in healthcare utilization (SOS Médecins and emergency departments) for asthma attacks and nasopharyngitis among children under 15 years of age was observed in weeks 36–37 in the region, followed by overall stability over the past two weeks. This increase in activity is likely linked in part to the circulation of the rhinovirus reported by the Nantes University Hospital laboratory, which is typically observed at this time of year.

Monkeypox

  • As of October 4, 2022, 98 cases with a biologically confirmed diagnosis of monkeypox have been reported.

Bronchiolitis

  • An increase in SOS Médecins calls for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age was observed in Week 39, while emergency department visits for the same reason remained stable, after having increased moderately in Week 38 to a level lower than those observed in previous years during the pre-epidemic phase.
