Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of October 30, 2014.

Over the past week in the region:

  • An autumnal resurgence of enterovirus viral meningitis, with at least 13 confirmed cases over the past three weeks at the virology laboratory of Nantes University Hospital and an increase in diagnosed viral meningitis cases in emergency departments over the past month.

  • An increase in bronchiolitis diagnoses among infants seen by SOS Médecins, though remaining just below the alert threshold. Such an increase has not yet been observed in the pediatric emergency department at the Nantes University Hospital.

  • Based on reports recorded by the Angers Poison Control and Toxicovigilance Center, the InVS has identified 74 cases of poisoning linked to mushroom ingestion in the region between June 30 and October 26, 2014. The number of new cases, which has been very low in the region since early September, has been increasing for the past week.

  • Cases of gastroenteritis diagnosed by SOS Médecins have returned to normal levels.

  • A seasonally typical persistence of a significant number of consultations for nasopharyngitis and asthma attacks among children over 2 years of age.
