Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of November 5, 2014.

Over the past week in the region:

  • The number of visits to the pediatric emergency department at Nantes University Hospital for bronchiolitis has begun to rise, with the threshold exceeded for the first time in week 44. SOS Médecins visits for bronchiolitis remain at the threshold level. The trend in the coming weeks remains uncertain due to the potential impact of school holidays on a reduction in RSV circulation.

  • There has been an increase in clusters of acute respiratory infections in nursing homes, with 10 clusters (including 2 ongoing) since early September.

  • The Angers Poison Control and Toxicovigilance Center has recorded 92 cases of poisoning linked to mushroom ingestion in the region between June 30 and November 2, 2014. The number of new cases, which was very low in the region following a small spike in late August, has been rising for the past two weeks (18 cases in week 44). ANSES recommendations on mushroom picking and consumption are available at https://www.anses.fr/fr/content/cueillette-et-consommation-de-champignons

  • The autumn resurgence of viral meningitis caused by enteroviruses is coming to an end, with only one confirmed case at Nantes University Hospital last week.
