Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of November 23, 2016.
Over the past week in the region:
An increase in bronchiolitis cases among children under two years of age was observed in the pediatric emergency department at Angers University Hospital during week 46 (with the threshold exceeded). In the western part of the region, the situation remained calm last week: visits to SOS Médecins clinics (Nantes and Saint-Nazaire) and to the pediatric emergency department at the Nantes University Hospital remain below the bronchiolitis epidemic threshold. A few cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) isolation were reported by the virology laboratories at the Nantes and Angers University Hospitals. Across France as a whole, the temporal and spatial spread of bronchiolitis (RSV) outbreaks is not uniform. Currently, two regions (Île-de-France and PACA) have entered the epidemic phase. After a lull during the All Saints’ Day holidays, consultations for gastroenteritis at SOS Médecins have resumed their upward trend over the past two weeks, remaining above the threshold. This outbreak has had little impact on pediatric hospital emergency departments, which suggests the circulation of norovirus (characterized by predominantly vomiting and limited severity).
