Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of November 17, 2023.

Key points

Bronchiolitis

  • An epidemic phase of bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age has been ongoing in the region since Week 41. Visits to emergency departments for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age increased slightly in Week 45, as did the number of hospitalizations. Meanwhile, SOS Médecins calls for bronchiolitis decreased significantly. The positivity rate for RSV in nasopharyngeal swabs across all age groups was also slightly lower in week 45, according to data from the virology laboratories at the Nantes and Angers University Hospitals. The decline in certain bronchiolitis-related indicators may be temporary, coinciding with the end of school breaks.

COVID-19

  • SOS Médecins calls for suspected Covid-19 tended to increase slightly in week 45. Visits to emergency departments for suspected Covid-19, as well as the incidence and positivity rates, continued to decline in week 45 (as a reminder, since July 1, only PCR-confirmed cases have been reported).

Flu

  • The Pays de la Loire region was not in a flu epidemic phase in week 45, like the other regions of mainland France.
