Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of March 5, 2014.
Over the past week in the region:
An ongoing flu outbreak with a moderate number of consultations for flu-like symptoms (SOS Médecins and the Unified Grog/Sentinelles Network) and flu virus isolates.
Four cases of severe influenza occurred over the past week. Four additional cases that occurred in early February were reported, bringing the total to 28 cases reported by intensive care units, the vast majority of which were type A. The age distribution shows a peak among people aged 40 to 64, as observed during previous seasons characterized by the circulation of the A(H1N1)p virus.
The season is characterized by a low number of reports of clusters of acute respiratory infections in nursing homes.
Decrease in the number of gastroenteritis cases seen by SOS Médecins and stabilization in the number of acute gastroenteritis outbreaks in nursing homes.
A gradual decrease in cases of bronchiolitis and RSV isolations.
