Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of June 27, 2017.
Over the past week in the region:
Heat wave in the region last week (week 25). Increase in SOS Médecins consultations and emergency room visits for heatstroke/hyperthermia. From Sunday, June 18, to Thursday, June 22 (heat wave period):
93 SOS Médecins consultations (Nantes and Saint-Nazaire) for heatstroke were recorded, peaking on June 19 (29 consultations); 86% involved people under the age of 45.
22 emergency room visits (across 6 departments in the region) for heatstroke/hyperthermia were recorded, peaking on June 20 (8 visits). During this period, 18 emergency room visits for dehydration were also observed, 72% of which involved people aged 75 and older. Note that there was an increase in dehydration cases the day after the heat wave ended.

Enterovirus meningitis has seen an early and significant surge over the past three weeks (emergency departments, SOS Médecins, and university hospital virology laboratories). A national update on these infections is available via the link below. No cases of severe neurological forms linked to EV-A71 or EV-D-68 have been reported to date in France.
