Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of June 14, 2013.
Over the past few days in the region:
As observed nationwide, the region has seen a sharp increase in calls to SOS Médecins and visits to emergency rooms for asthma attacks, coinciding with a period of grass pollen season reported by the RNSA. A specific phenomenon was observed in Nantes on Friday, June 7, following a thunderstorm, with a sudden surge in calls to SOS Médecins for asthma starting at 9 p.m., followed by a peak at midnight and a return to seasonal norms by Tuesday, June 11.This phenomenon has already been described and attributed to the massive and sudden increase in allergens during thunderstorms in the pollen season. The Nantes Pollinarium sentinel had issued an alert that same day regarding the start of ryegrass (grass) pollen season.
