Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of July 4, 2017.

Over the past week in the region:

Enterovirus meningitis has seen an early and significant surge over the past month or so (emergency departments, SOS Médecins, and university hospital virology laboratories). A national update on these infections is available via the link below. No cases of severe neurological forms linked to EV-A71 or EV-D-68 have been reported to date in France.http://invs.santepubliquefrance.fr/Dossiers-thematiques/Maladies-infectieuses/Maladies-a-preventionvaccinale/Poliomyelite/Points-de-situation/Point-sur-les-infections-a-enterovirus-au-20-juin-2017

Since 2015, France has observed an increase in the incidence of invasive meningococcal infections caused by serogroup W, with a high case fatality rate, linked to the spread of a new variant. With 4 cases reported over the past 11 months, the Pays de la Loire region remains less affected compared to other regions. This situation calls for vigilance and underscores the importance of sending every meningococcal strain to the National Reference Center for Genotyping.
