Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of July 29, 2014.

Over the past week in the region:

  • Enterovirus meningitis remains rare compared to last year, with 20 confirmed cases since the beginning of June at Nantes University Hospital (compared to 68 during the same period last year).

  • There was a sharp increase in consultations at SOS Médecins Nantes for insect bites between July 24 and 28, with 74 cases, half of which involved children under 10 years of age. This increase was expected due to tidal conditions in mid-July that led to significant larval production of Aedes caspius in the Loire estuary. These recurring nuisance phenomena were described in BEH No. 21-22/2014 dated July 8, 2014.

  • No significant increase in heat-related illnesses.
