Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of July 23, 2013.

Over the past week in the region:

  • There has been a steady increase in the number of heatstroke diagnoses made by SOS Médecins Nantes doctors, with 48 cases in week 29. From July 6 to 21, 64% of the 107 patients were under 15 years old (57% of whom were between 5 and 9 years old) and 10% were 65 or older. According to SOS Médecins Nantes, heatstroke-related visits primarily involve young children, athletes, or workers exposed to the sun. This increase in visits, linked to weather conditions, was also observed by SOS Médecins Saint-Nazaire, with 9 cases in week 29 compared to 2 in week 28. The proportion of hyperthermia or heatstroke among diagnoses made by emergency physicians participating in the InVS’s Oscour network (RPU reporting) has remained stable for the past three weeks.

  • Decrease in the number of enterovirus meningitis cases at Nantes University Hospital.

  • Persistence of insect bite diagnoses made by doctors at SOS Médecins Nantes and Saint-Nazaire.
