Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of July 16, 2013.

Over the past week in the region:

  • Trend: The sharp increase in the number of heatstroke diagnoses made by SOS Médecins Nantes physicians since July 6 continues, linked to weather conditions. From July 6 to 14, 71% of patients were under 15 years old (including 36% under 5 years old) and 4% were 65 years or older (n=2). No patients were hospitalized. According to SOS Médecins, these calls concern specific populations (workers exposed to the sun, athletes, and young children). These results are provisional as data for July 12 are missing.

  • Number of enterovirus meningitis cases remains high at Nantes University Hospital

  • Increase in diagnoses of insect bites made by SOS Médecins doctors in Nantes and Saint-Nazaire. This increase is likely linked to the increased circulation of various species of freshwater mosquitoes, observed by the EID on the Atlantic coast, following the rains in May and June.
