Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of January 30, 2013.

Over the past week in the region:

High number of elderly patients visiting emergency departments and an increase in deaths among the very elderly.

Moderate flu outbreak with a predominance of the A virus. Stabilization in the number of clinical flu cases reported by the unified Grog/Sentinelles network and the SOS Médecins associations. Twenty cases of severe flu, mostly in people aged 40 to 64, have been hospitalized in intensive care in the region since late November. Increase in outbreaks of acute respiratory infections in nursing homes since mid-December.

The gastroenteritis outbreak continues to decline, with a decrease in the number of gastroenteritis diagnoses made by doctors from the SOS Médecins associations. In total, 118 clusters of acute gastroenteritis cases in nursing homes in the region have been reported, and the number is currently decreasing. Norovirus is the dominant agent in these outbreaks.
