Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of January 23, 2013.

Over the past week in the region:

A sharp decrease in emergency department visits by infants over the past two weeks, but a new increase in visits by older adults last week (above the threshold).

Moderate flu outbreak with a predominance of A viruses. Increase in clinical flu cases reported by the unified Grog/Sentinelles network; 17 cases of severe flu, mostly in people aged 40 to 64, have been hospitalized in intensive care in the region since late November. Increase in outbreaks of acute respiratory infections in nursing homes over the past month.

The gastroenteritis outbreak began to slow down last week. A total of 105 clusters of gastroenteritis cases in nursing homes in the region have been reported, and the number is currently decreasing. Norovirus is the dominant agent in these outbreaks.

End of the bronchiolitis outbreak, accompanied by a decline in RSV isolations over the past two weeks.
